We are going through a time where there is so much going on, socially, politically, and emotionally. People are constantly on edge, and as time progresses things are only getting worse. I remember growing up and never hearing of such a thing as suicide bombing, cyber attacks, or any social or political unrest. Yes, these are serious issues, but I think these things are just making everyone super sensitive, there is so much intolerance and impatience to understand one another. The smallest comment, tweet, or social interaction can send a person or a group of people into a frenzy. We’re living in a time where vanity, ego, and ignorance, are more valued than empathy, selflessness, and knowledge. We are giving people who spread hate and fear more power over us. The value of human life is decreasing, we are becoming selfish and turning a blind eye on those getting oppressed. The mentality is becoming more ‘me versus them’ or ‘as long as it doesn’t affect me, I’m not bothered’. It’s frightening to think that this is going to be the norm for the future of our children. We need to recognize that hate and fear mongering isn’t going to solve any issues, it’s only going to make matters worse. We need to take time to reflect on ourselves and constantly remind our selves what is right and what is wrong. We need to stand up for ourselves and for others around us. We need to be more welcoming of people who are outside of our circle, race, and faith. The world needs more love, that’s the only way we are going to flourish.
